Wisconsin Boat Bill of Sale
A Wisconsin boat bill of sale is a legal paper that proves the change of proprietorship of a watercraft inside the state. The bill of sale will include the purchaser's and vendor's contact details, a description of the boat being sold, and the conditions of the sale. This document may be required for registration as well as tax aims

Vessel registration

On Wisconsin's waters, all motorized watercraft must be documented. (Boats brought in from out of state that are lawfully registered in a different state may be used in the state for up to sixty days without documentation.) If the boat is longer than 16 feet, titling is required before it can be registered. Purchasers must register their watercraft with the Wisconsin Division of Natural Resources within ten days of its acquisition, according to state law. When a boat's registration renewal is due, it can be done virtually, through a sales representative, or by mail to the address listed on the Wisconsin citizens' registration.

Where Should I Register?

Registration can be completed virtually, or physically at a local Division of Natural Resources office, or by mail to the address on the registration application.

Documents Needed

  • A completed request for vessel registration and titling (Form 9400-193). Except the formal registration card comes through the mail, purchasers can utilize a copy of the completed Document as temporary evidence of documentation.

  • A Bill of Sale for a Vessel

  • The vendor's prototype certificate of title is signed over.

  • If the vessel was previously encumbered by a lien, a lien release from the seller is required.

  • All transaction taxes and registration costs must be paid.
