Ohio Boat Bill of Sale
An Ohio vessel bill of sale is a legal document that records the boat's proprietorship transfer. The document will outline the details of the purchaser and vendor, the car being sold, and state the conditions of the proprietorship transfer. This document is acceptable for use during the documentation procedure.

Vessel Registration

All recreational vessels operating in Ohio waters, which includes canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats, have to be documented with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). (Canoes, kayaks, and non-motorized watercraft below 14 feet in length, on the other hand, do not necessitate titling.) The ODNR does not specify when a purchaser has to document a vessel after its acquisition, however, it is advisable to do so as soon as feasible. Documentation is valid for three years and concludes on March 1 for all registrants. Vessel registration can be renewed virtually once it has been established.

Where Should I Register?

An approved vessel registration agent or a watercraft office can help you finish your documentation. The ODNR recommends that applicants call ahead to confirm the hours during which documentation services are available and the payment methods accepted.

Forms for Vessel Documentation

  • DNR Form 8460R (Certified Vessel Registration Application);

  • A bill of sale document;

  • If the vessel requires titling, an authenticated copy of the prototype title is signed over to the purchaser, or a manufacturer's statement of origin, or for new cars bought through a merchant.

  • An acceptable driver's permit or government-issued identity; and

  • Remittance of all documentation costs is determined by the length of the vessel and its mode of propulsion.
