Maine Firearm Bill of Sale
A Maine firearm bill of sale is a legal document that contains the agreement between a seller and a buyer as relates to the change of ownership for a firearm. This document is a confirmation of the transfer of ownership from the merchant selling to the person who is buying. It contains vital information about the parties involved and the firearm itself. To be recognized, all fields on it must be filled and it must be executed in the presence of people with authority.

Restrictions according to the law According to law;

According to 15 ME Rev Stat § 393, there are certain crimes that outrightly restricts a person from buying, owning or selling firearms.

Owning and selling and firearm

Any person who has been given consent to own a firearm in Maine can also offer firearms for sale in the state.

Permission for the registration of a firearm:

 25 ME Rev Stat § 2014, states that no government agency has the permission to ask people living in Maine to register their firearms or themselves as owners of firearms.

Concealing weapon:

 Any person who is twenty-one (21) years old and above and is also qualified and allowed to own a firearm, can carry a hidden weapon without a permit. Any person below twenty years of age and above eighteen years cannot carry a concealed weapon, without first obtaining a permit to do so.

Making application to own a firearm:

 To apply for and obtain a firearm(handgun) permit, such a person must be at least eighteen (18) years old. To do this, the person applying must follow the steps 1-7  below: 

  1. Find out whether the State Police issues permits in the applicant’s city of residence, or if not, whether the city does so directly.

  2. Must have finished applying for a permit to carry hidden handguns.

  3. Must have completed and must attach proof of having completed a handgun safety course that is recognized by the federal laws.

  4.  Following these, he/she must attach a passport as a means of identification.

  5.  A copy of the applicant’s certificate of birth is also a necessary document, and should be attached.

  6. The completed application(having the necessary documents stated above) must be submitted to the local city authority or the Maine State Police Special Investigations Department (164 State House Station, Augusta, Maine 04333-0164).

  7. To finalise this, an application fee must also be paid.

According to 25 ME Rev Stat § 2001-A(2)(F), Maine recognizes the permits of all states(such states that in turn recognize Maine’s permit)  to carry concealed handguns, except states such as; Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
