It’s a required document that must be presented to the authorities when registering. In Kentucky, the relevant agency is the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. After presenting the bill of sale that has been signed by both buyer and seller, and other required documents, the vessel can be registered in the name of the new owner. Note: It’s recommended that the bill of sale is notarized.
Kentucky requires all vessels that are mechanically powered and used in the state to be duly registered with the DFW. If it’s a newly purchased boat then it must be registered within fifteen days. If, on the other hand, it’s a transfer from out of state because the owner moved their residence to Kentucky then it must be registered within 60 days. Like many other states, registration is valid for a single year. All registration expires on April 30, irrespective of the initial date of registration. It can be renewed in person or via mail.
