In the state, anyone can trade a weapon privately, however, if the seller does not have a legal license, they must utilize an authorized weapon trader to conduct thorough background scrutiny on the purchaser.
According to C.R.S. 24-33.5-424(3)(b)(I), a person is not allowed to buy or possess a handgun in Colorado if he or she:
Has been arrested or charged with a felony for which the potential owner would be prohibited from acquiring, collecting, or owning a handgun if convicted under state or federal law, and the case has not been resolved or the last judgment is not reflected in other records;
or Is the subject of a charge, fact, or a felony protestation claiming a crime for which the prospective transferee would be prohibited from purchasing, receiving, or possessing a firearm if convicted
C.R.S. 29-11.7-102 makes it illegal to register a firearm in Colorado.
In Colorado, a Concealed Weapon License is needed to have a secret (concealed) firearm following C.R.S 18-12-105. (2).
To apply for a secret (concealed) carry license, you have to be a legal Colorado resident and at a minimum of twenty-one years old. They are not allowed to misuse/abuse drugs or alcohol, and they are not allowed to be the subject of any protective orders. Applicants must additionally show that they have completed an approved weapons coaching course or have other evidence of proficiency.
Step 1: Fill out the application for a Concealed Weapon License.
Step 2: Add a copy of your guns training certificate and a copy of your Colorado driver's license.
Step 3: Apply with the local county sheriff's office, along with the filing charges. The cost of filing varies by county.
Out-of-state secret (concealed) carry licenses are acknowledged for states that honor Colorado's permit, according to C.R.S. 18-12-213. California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Washington, Washington D.C. do not recognize Colorado's concealed carry permit.
