The following individuals are prohibited from purchasing a firearm under Section 13A-11-72:
Anyone who has been convicted in this state or elsewhere of committing or attempting to commit a crime of violence, a misdemeanor offense of domestic violence, a violent offense as listed in Section 12-25-32(15), anyone who is subject to a valid protection order for domestic abuse, or anyone who is of unsound mind may not own or have a firearm in his or her possession or control.
Except in the circumstances outlined in this section, no person who is a minor, a drug addict, or a persistent drinker may own or have a firearm in his or her possession or control.
Except as specified in Section 13A-11-74, no individual shall carry or possess a dangerous weapon on the premises of a public school with the intent to do bodily injury.
When it comes to owning a pistol, there is no requirement for a background check, a permit, or any form of registration.
It is illegal to carry a firearm in a hidden manner unless the carrier obtains a pistol permit or a permit from another state.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, Alabama residents, and not have a criminal record that would prevent them from owning a handgun.
Step 1: Go online or in person to a local sheriff's office. It will be necessary to do a background check.
Step 2: Pay fees (varies by county) and wait up to 30 days for the permission to be approved.
Accept the gun permit certificate, which may need to be picked up in person.
