When a private individual or an entity purchases a vehicle, they are given forty days from the transaction date to register it with the proper authority in Louisiana. If the vehicle is not purchased but instead transferred from another state then the owner of the vehicle will have just thirty days to register the vehicle. In Louisiana, registration is valid for two years and citizens can renew it via the online portal of the Office of Motor Vehicles
A duly completed bill of sale
The odometer disclosure statement for vehicles under 16,000 pounds and that were manufactured within the last 20 years
The certificate of title that has been signed over to the buyer
A duly completed vehicle application (Form DPSMV 1799);
The form for notice of vehicle transfer
A driver’s license that’s valid in the state of Louisiana
The applicable registration fees
Proof of insurance that meets the mandatory minimums
If the vehicle is to be registered on behalf of the owner by someone else then a motor vehicle power of attorney is required
