A Colorado motor vehicle bill of sale is a legal document issued by a seller as proof of payment and transfer of ownership of a vehicle. This document is prepared as an "as is" document, which means the previous owner of the vehicle provides no warranty. It will list all of the vehicle's specifications as well as what the buyer will need to give to the DMV for titling and proof of ownership. All cars under 16,000 Ibs and ten years old need an odometer disclosure statement. Signing Requirements - Both the seller and the buyer must sign the contract.

How to Obtain a Vehicle Registration

You must physically present at your local DMV (Division of Motor Vehicles) and produce the following documentation to register your freshly purchased automobile:

  • Sale document (if there was no available space to record the odometer reading).

  • If the car was titled out of state, a completed VIN Verification Form (Form DR 2698) is required. This form can only be completed by a licensed agent.

  • A valid photograph ID (driver's license, passport, military ID, etc.).

  • Proof of a current insurance policy.

  • Documentation indicating that your car qualified in an emissions test – in line with 42-4-310 (AirCare Colorado offers you an implementation that enables users to check the last two emission scrutiny on any gas vehicle by filling in the VIN).

Come with the money you'll need to pay the mandatory documentation charges.
